McAlester Building Foundation
Housed in the old McAlester High School Building, this foundation features several rooms of area memorabilia.   The Coal Miner's Museum is also located in the building.  Also featured: Native American exhibits, school memorabilia, a graduate hall of fame, and an art exhibit room.  220 E. Oklahoma Prisons' Historical Museum

Pioneer Coal Miner Memorial
A life-size bronze statue and "wall of memories" pays tribute to the thousands of coal miners who worked the mines and lost their lives.  More than 1,700 names are inscribed in the wall.  Chadick Park, S. 3rd Street, McAlester.

Pittsburgh County Genealogical & Historical  Society
This facility is made available for the public's enjoyment and for research purposes. The building features historical exhibits, including  information in Indians and Indian artifacts.  113 E. Carl Albert Parkway, McAlester, (918) 426-0388.

KrebsHeritage Museum
History of Krebs and of the area by immigrants from Europe, as well as other countries.  This museum is located in the vicinity  of the Old Opera House and Dreamland Theatre.  Coal mine, Native American and  early American Cultures are represented in this historic museum. 85 Main Street Krebs, (918) 426-0377

J.G. Puterbaugh House & Garrard Ardenium
Once the home of J.G.  Puterbaugh, one of the founding fathers of the coal business in McAlester, this home and its grounds may be viewed by appointment only. It is a tribute to early-day McAlester and includes antiques, collectibles, and other items of  local interest.  The Garrard Ardenium, adjacent to the home, is owned and operated by Mr. Puterbaugh's niece, Allece.  Visitors will enjoy the tranquility  of beautifully landscaped gardens and a step into the past with antique  furnishings, maps, photographs, and historical items.  5th & Adams Street, McAlester, (918) 423-0314(house) (918) 426-6472(Ardenium) (918) 423-1555.

 

Rainbow Girls Headquarters
